Ep. 277: Outer Banks | Cape Hatteras National Seashore North Carolina camping kayaking

Avatar admin | October 19, 2022

North Carolina's Outer Banks is one of the most hazardous sections of the Atlantic Coast, where the Gulf Stream collides with the Virginia Drift, a branch of the Labrador Current from Canada. This collision forces southbound ships into a dangerous 12-mile long sandbar called Diamond Shoals, where hundreds and possibly thousands of shipwrecks have given Cape Hatteras the reputation as the Graveyard of the Atlantic. This is home to Cape Hatteras National Seashore -- America's first -- and while camping in the National Seashore's Oregon Inlet Campground we'll visit the famed Cape Hatteras Light and the Oregon Inlet Life-Saving Station, climb the 10-story staircase of Bodie Island Light, kayak Pamlico Sound at Pea Island, survive a gale to ferry to Ocracoke Island, tour the birthplace of flight at Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk, grab some Chesapeake Bay steamed crabs, and learn the history of the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island at Manteo.

ABOUT US

Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, always filmed in stunning 4K.

We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah during the winter months, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so while you'll occasionally find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. We've now transitioned from "long-timing" for six months a year, to living and traveling in our RV full-time.

We'll provide beautiful travel videos, as well as some tips and insight on trip planning, and equipping and maintaining your RV to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!
