Pioneers arrived in the Antelope Valley of western Nevada and eastern California in 1860, their prosperity enabled by irrigation ditches that diverted the water of the Walker River. Today the Walker River supplies Topaz Lake, a popular camping, boating and fishing locale in the far northern end of the Antelope Valley, split in two by the state border. While camping for the Memorial Day holiday week at Douglas County's Topaz Lake Recreation Area we'll find trouble while searching for a nearby gold mine, take a scenic trip across Monitor Pass, find supplies in Gardnerville and Minden, and explore the history of Genoa, Nevada's first European settlement.

We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah during the winter months, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so while you'll occasionally find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. We've now transitioned from "long-timing" for six months a year, to living and traveling in our RV full-time.

Grand Adventure is the creative video outlet for Marc Guido, a 50-something outdoors enthusiast who first added an RV to his gear bag in spring 2017.
