Ep. 264: Crater Lake | National Park Oregon RV camping kayaking hiking

Established in 1902, Crater Lake is the fifth-oldest National Park in the United States and the only one in Oregon. The park centers on the caldera of Crater Lake, a remnant of the destroyed volcano Mount Mazama. The eruption of Mt. Mazama formed a large caldera that was filled in about 740 years, forming this beautiful lake with a deep blue hue. The lake is 1,949 feet deep at its deepest point, and depending on how you measure it's either the ninth deepest or third deepest in the world.

We're boondocking for the week of the July 4th holiday right up the road from Crater Lake at Diamond Lake Recreation Area, from which we'll explore both lakes, the upper Rogue River, Rogue River Gorge, and the town of Prospect. We'll hike to Parsony Falls, Mill Creek Falls and Barr Creek Falls, and go kayaking at Diamond Lake!

Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, always filmed in stunning 4K.

We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah during the winter months, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so while you'll occasionally find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. We've now transitioned from "long-timing" for six months a year, to living and traveling in our RV full-time.
